Why URL Image Extraction Misses Pictures: How BeatSlide Imports Pages
Quick answer
BeatSlide can import images discoverable on accessible webpages, but not every site or gallery. Login walls, banners, dynamic content, tiny images and protected image hosts can all prevent usable results.
The import paths
- The browser first tries the submitted URL as a direct image.
- If that fails, a server-side request attempts to obtain webpage content through Firecrawl.
- If that request fails, public CORS proxy services are attempted.
- Candidate image URLs are extracted, resolved and checked before adding page results.
The importer examines sources such as image tags, srcset, lazy-loading attributes, CSS image references and some structured content. Detecting a URL does not mean the image will actually load, meet minimum dimensions or be available to your browser.
Current page-image limits
| Check | Current behavior |
|---|---|
| Candidate validation | Up to 80 candidate URLs per page import |
| Successful page additions | Up to 50 images per import |
| Minimum page-image dimensions | Both width and height at least 200 pixels |
| Existing session images | Kept; new results append |
| Duplicate filtering | Within extracted candidates, not guaranteed across repeated imports |
These limits concern the page-extraction path. Direct image URLs are handled separately and currently are not subjected to the same dimension filter. There is no promise to load every image in a large gallery.
Why a banner matters
A cookie, age or consent overlay can change the content served or stop lazy-loaded images from being requested. Obtaining rendered HTML does not guarantee successful interaction with every banner. BeatSlide does not give you controls to sign into another website or manually approve its overlays through the importer.
Do not attempt to bypass access rules. If permitted, open the original page yourself and download the images for local selection instead.
Why Instagram often fails
Instagram profiles can require login, block automated access or return a restricted page containing only branding. That explains why an import may find a logo rather than profile photos. A larger wait alone does not remove authentication or access restrictions. The app cannot promise reliable profile extraction.
Why extracted URLs break later
Image hosts may require cookies, reject hotlinking, expire signed links or remove a file. An image that loaded during validation can later fail when displayed. Remote imports retain URLs; they are not permanent downloaded copies under your control.
Privacy and permission
Page extraction sends the submitted URL to external services. Avoid confidential URLs and tokens. Public visibility does not mean reuse is allowed; check rights before saving or importing material. See Creative Commons reuse guidance for attribution and license checks.
If an import yields no usable images, local selection is the practical fallback, not a claim that extraction has access to any website.
