How we compared them

We read each publisher's own page on 30 and 31 October 2026 and listed only features stated there. Check each page before relying on a detail.

The six options in detail

BeatSlide: best if you want your own images

BeatSlide is a browser metronome with a full-screen slideshow. You choose one of 11 sounds, a fixed tempo between 20 and 300 BPM or a random difficulty, and whether images change on every beat or every 1 to 10 seconds. Images come from your device, a public web page or built-in demo photos. Random Medium and Hard add surprise pauses. There are no scores, no rounds and no automatic ending: the session runs until you stop it. It is also the only tool here whose pages state a Spanish, German, Italian and French interface.

Edge Trainer: best for a structured session with stats

Edge Trainer runs fixed rounds with five phases: build, edge, surf, cooldown and finish. A rising BPM sets the pace during the build phase, you tap when you reach the edge, and only the last round ends with a finish. Difficulty sets the number of rounds, from 2 (about 5:53) to 5 (about 13:33). It offers 59 AI-generated trainers, a beat or moan soundtrack, and end-of-session stats you can share. Own images are not mentioned.

JOI Challenge: best for Reddit images and custom challenges

JOI Challenge describes a Simple Mode that pulls images from a Reddit subreddit with escalating BPM, and a Build Your Own mode where you set each interval's duration, BPM and media, then share it by link. Its help page says Simple Mode accepts Reddit URLs only. Difficulty levels are Normal, Hard, XXHard and Impossible.

Sara's JOI Training: best for a story-driven session

Sara's JOI Training is an HTML5 game you play in the browser, also on mobile. It follows a branching story with several characters, more than 1,000 voice clips and 20 endings (35 with Patreon). You follow a visual metronome at speeds you can adjust. It is in English; loading your own images is not described.

JOI Engine: best desktop toolkit

JOI Engine by Kun Blu is a free download for Windows and Linux, marked as in development. Its Edging Game gives you a beat to follow; other modes include a dice game, a slideshow and an image viewer. Images come from e621 by tag. The developer says local image loading is in the Patreon build and planned for version 2.0, and that a browser version is planned.

Fap Queen: best short rhythm game

Fap Queen is a Windows rhythm game made with GameMaker, offered with a name-your-own-price download. It uses a metronome, has separate volume controls for moans and metronome since version 1.4, and lets you switch punishments off. An average session lasts a few minutes.

Browser or download?

Browser tools start in seconds, work on phones and leave nothing installed on your device. Downloads can offer more modes, but you run an executable from an independent developer. If you choose a download, get it from the developer's own itch.io page and keep your system up to date.
