BeatSlide vs JOI Challenge vs Edge Trainer: A Feature Comparison

Quick answer

Choose BeatSlide if you want to use your own images or images from a web page and control BPM and slide timing yourself. Choose JOI Challenge if you want images pulled from a Reddit subreddit or a custom multi-interval challenge. Choose Edge Trainer if you want a structured round-based session with trainers, stats and a set finish.

How this comparison was made

BeatSlide features come from the current app. Edge Trainer features come from its edging game page, read on 30 October 2026. The JOI Challenge site could not be opened live that day, so its features come from the publisher's own home and help page text as indexed by a search engine on the same date. Features may have changed since; check each site before relying on a detail. Nothing here was measured for timing accuracy, privacy or reliability.

Where each tool fits

BeatSlide

BeatSlide is a metronome with a full-screen slideshow. You choose the sound, a fixed BPM on a circular dial or a random difficulty, and whether images change on every beat or every 1–10 seconds. Images can come from your device or a public web page; uploaded images stay only for the session. It does not score you, track edges or end the session on its own.

JOI Challenge

JOI Challenge describes two main modes: a Simple Mode that pulls images from a Reddit subreddit with escalating BPM, and a Build Your Own mode where you set each interval's duration, BPM and media, then share it by link. Its help text says Simple Mode accepts Reddit URLs only. A text-based mode is listed as beta.

Edge Trainer

Edge Trainer runs fixed rounds with five phases: build, edge, surf, cooldown and finish. You tap when you reach the edge, and only the last round ends with a finish. It offers 59 AI-generated trainers, two audio options and end-of-session stats with a shareable result. It does not describe loading your own images.
