BeatSlide Difficulty Levels: None, Easy, Medium and Hard
Quick answer
Difficulty changes the random BPM range, how long a tempo lasts and whether automatic pauses can occur. The current choices are None, Easy, Medium and Hard; there is no Extreme or Custom preset.
Verified preset table
| Difficulty | BPM range | Tempo hold duration | Pause probability at a state boundary | Pause duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| None | 20–300 | 10–120 seconds | 0% | No automatic pause |
| Easy | 80–120 | 30–120 seconds | 0% | No automatic pause |
| Medium | 60–160 | 15–60 seconds | 30% | 3–15 seconds |
| Hard | 40–220 | 5–20 seconds | 50% | 5–30 seconds |
These values describe the current app implementation reviewed on October 30, 2026. They are software settings, not medically recommended tempos or safe session durations. No behavior was changed merely to write this table.
None: random without a constrained difficulty
None still randomizes BPM. It spans the full 20–300 range and has no automatic pauses. Because the range is broad, None is not necessarily gentler than Easy, even though it lacks a difficulty label. Use fixed mode if you want no random changes at all.
Easy: narrower range and longer states
Easy selects 80–120 BPM and holds each value for 30–120 seconds. It has no random pause. “Easy” describes a constrained random pattern, not a guarantee that its minimum BPM fits a person’s preference. For a specific slower tempo, turn Random off and select it directly.
Medium: wider range and possible pauses
Medium selects 60–160 BPM with 15–60 second holds. A state boundary has a 30% chance of introducing a 3–15 second pause before a fresh tempo state. This is not a pause every third change, and it does not guarantee a pause within a short session.
Hard: shorter holds and a wider range
Hard selects 40–220 BPM with 5–20 second holds. Each eligible state boundary has a 50% pause chance; pauses last 5–30 seconds. Random draws may produce small changes or repeat a BPM. Hard does not force every new tempo to jump to the opposite end of its range.
Changing settings during playback
Open Settings to choose another preset or switch to fixed BPM. A current state can finish before the new preset is fully reflected in the next selection. Stop and Start if you want a fresh session state when comparing presets.
The settings interface does not expose personal random bounds, hold durations or independent pause-probability inputs. Slide timing and sound remain separate choices. During a pause, Stop stays available so you can end rather than wait for automatic resumption.
What the labels do not measure
BeatSlide does not assess endurance, rank users or track completion scores. There is no required progression from Easy to Hard. Select according to the pattern you want, and use fixed mode when a repeatable tempo matters more than surprise.
